I had a few weeks ago, I had half a blog post written about the rise in COVID-19 reviews calling themselves “systematic reviews” and whether that was appropriate given the rapid development of literature in this area. While I was gathering my thoughts, a listserv email came into my inbox with a request from a librarian to collaborate on a research paper on that same exact topic! I love a good coincidence, so I immediately reached out to her so we could join forces.
One of my favorite things about working in libraries is that just about every single person I meet is absolutely wonderful, and my listserv librarian colleague was no exception. We managed to put together a short write-up on our joint topic and submit to MLA Connect within a week, and the article was published just a few days later.
I Don’t Think It Means What You Think It Means: How COVID-19 Systematic Reviews Don’t Fit the Mold (April 9, 2020)

We plan to conduct a more intensive study of this phenomenon in the coming weeks. It’s been a while since I’ve done any heavy-duty research projects, so I’m looking forward to diving into this topic!
