I started this blog almost 10 years ago with the intention of documenting my professional journey as a librarian. I was a fresh graduate from library school and wanted to make my digital mark on the world as I established myself in the field.
As I look back at what I have experienced in my career, I feel so grateful for the opportunities I have had to work with amazing people and chase the things that ignite my passion. I think I have had the chance to work in just about every part of librarianship in some shape or form. I definitely chose the right career because I have loved every minute of it (give or take a few).
My commitment to the blog has ebbed and flowed through the years. I’ve written about conferences I’ve attended, articles I’ve published, and projects I’ve completed. Sometimes, I write about ideas I’m working through or practices that help me get through the day. At one point, I was publishing a post every week; conversely, I have gone years between posts when life is busy or inspiration is lacking.
I now find myself in a season of change. When the uncertain future starts to make me anxious, I take some comfort in looking at my past and knowing that I have the skills and experience to take advantage of almost any opportunity that comes my way. This blog is a record of that past, and I treasure every post (except for maybe this one).
So, what do I plan to do with it now? I’m not quite sure yet. I know I want to write more, explore my ideas, and try to find a way to make the future a little less uncertain. I want to leave some record of my professional life so that when I look back ten years from now, I have something to remind me that everything will work out for the best.
I guess I’ll just start writing and see what happens.
